Cities, people,
and possibilities.

I’m Jassy. I explore how interactive technologies can help people experience, understand, and shape the cities they live in.

EVERYDAY URBAN LIFEINCLUSIVE PUBLIC SPACEPARTICIPATION & IMAGINATION

Selected research

Different ways of engaging with the city
01

Imagining inclusive
public spaces

Co-design · Gender inclusion · Generative AI

How can women’s everyday experiences inform the design of small public spaces in Hong Kong? A web-based 3D environment helps participants locate concerns and discuss possible alternatives.

Inside the project

The research combines formative interviews with co-design sessions. Participants explore recognizable spatial settings, mark their concerns, and use AI-generated images to make design ideas more concrete and open to discussion.

02

WanderWith

Urban exploration · Mobile interaction

A mobile system exploring how place recommendations, photography prompts, and post-walk reflection can support wandering through the city.

Inside the project

WanderWith brings together destination-based wandering, context-aware photo tasks, lightweight capture, and an AI-supported walk summary. An exploratory in-the-wild study examines the immediate experience of using these features.

03

Surreality

Mixed reality · Art · Situated experience

A campus-based mixed reality exhibition exploring how digital art can inhabit existing indoor and outdoor environments.

Inside the project

Four exhibition zones connect virtual artworks with physical surroundings. Expert and visitor studies examine curation, movement, engagement, and the challenges of presenting mixed reality art in shared spaces.

04

Meaningful city walking

Developing direction · Urban HCI

An emerging research direction exploring what makes walking through a city meaningful, and how technology might support attention, discovery, and engagement with place.

Research questions

How do people notice and interpret their surroundings? What can urban design and architecture contribute to interactive walking experiences? How can technology support a walk while leaving room for curiosity?

A little about me

Research starts
with everyday life.

I’m a PhD student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, with a research focus on Urban HCI.

My work connects people’s lived experiences with interactive systems: from discussing public-space concerns to exploring a neighborhood or encountering art in place.

How I approach the work

People and place at the center

Listen to lived experience

Begin with people’s routines, memories, and situated concerns to understand what matters in everyday urban life.

Make ideas discussable

Use interactive prototypes and visual representations to help people articulate experiences and explore alternatives.

Learn in context

Examine how systems are experienced in relation to physical settings, social situations, and the people who use them.
